It’s no secret that the Traverse City area boasts a surprising number of wineries for such a small destination. Because there are so many, the Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula & Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail have created a range of events that allow you to visit many of them in order to sample some of their masterful creations during these upcoming 2017 Summer & Fall Traverse City Wine Events. There are also some other great wine & food events happening in Traverse City that many local wineries participate in and we’ve listed those as well! Join us for the 9th annual Traverse City Wine & Cider Festival to celebrate local wine, food, and culture. Get a true taste of the region with great wines, art, food trucks and live musical entertainment all in one location!

Local Wines and Hard Ciders – Wines will be flowing into your glass as wineries from Northern Michigan feature great wines reflective of local terroir.  Taste from a selection of local wines from 20 wineries and cideries.

Local Food Trucks – Savor the flavors of fresh, local fare handmade by area chefs. Pair your wine with small plates for an ultimate culinary experience.

Luncheon: The World on our Coast – $55

The World on Our Coast: This is an extraordinary opportunity for fans of wine, food, summer, and Riesling to meet owners, wine makers, and cellar masters from Europe, Oregon, California, New York, Ontario, Australia, and elsewhere along with local Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsula winery owners and winemakers. Attendees will enjoy lunch seated with an owner and/or winemaker from both a local winery and one from elsewhere Grand Traverse Bay will indeed play host to representatives from around the World, and you can be part of the fun.

Pinot Noir/Riesling Tasting, Panel Discussion & VIP Access – $150

Sommeliers often mention Riesling and Pinot Noir in the same breath when asked about their favorite varieties and in many parts of the wine world, the two grapes are grown more or less side by side. John Haeger will lead a panel of distinguished winemakers from California, Oregon, and Germany’s Pfalz and Baden regions through a discussion of shared terroirs, surprising similarities and intractable differences, illustrated by an equal number of Pinots and Rieslings. After the panel, you will have a chance to taste some of the best wines not available to the general public. This also includes a ticket to Night of 100 Rieslings.

Night of 100 Rieslings – $75

Enjoy this dinner that features 100 Rieslings from all over the world. Enjoy a live solo performance by Laith Al-Saadi and fabulous food from S2S Sugar 2 SaltCatering. Ticket includes 13 one-ounce pours and a souvenir tasting glass.

The next wildly popular Small Plates, an intimate progressive dinner, is Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Enjoy a glass of wine paired with a gourmet tapas dish in the tasting rooms during this progressive dinner. Many wineries partner with local chefs to prepare and serve each delicious pairing. Culinary aficionados will enjoy this upscale, gourmet food event!

Tickets are $15 per seating, and you may get tickets for one, two or three seatings, each at the winery of your choice. Seating times are roughly 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm. This annual weekend features a spectacular race through Leelanau’s vineyards followed by a self-guided wine tour along the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail featuring world class wines and culinary delights that reflect the season’s bounty.

The Harvest Stompede Wine Tour starts on Saturday immediately following the race (5k Run/Walk or 7-mile Run, Register for the race here). The tour takes place from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday and 12:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday. The Hunt for the Reds of October – Weekdays in October 2017

Leelanau Peninsula has become well-known for its Riesling and other cool-climate white varietals and blends. What is often overlooked, however, are the high-quality red wines being grown in the region. To help get beneath the surface, the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail hosts a fun event to explore and discover great red wines of Leelanau Peninsula. The Hunt for the Reds of October takes place weekdays (Monday through Friday) during the month of October. For the entire month of October, your ticket gets you a complimentary pour at each of more than 20 participating wineries offering diverse red wines: big and bold Cabernet Francs and Merlots, aromatic and spicy Pinot Noirs and many more. >>> More details & tickets…

Celebrate the upcoming holiday season enjoying local wine and delicious fare along the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail. Saturdays 11:00 to 5:00 pm and Sundays 12:00 to 5:00 pm.

Tickets are $75 for couples or $50 for singles and include a featured wine and food pairing at 23 wineries, a souvenir wine glass and the wildly popular holiday gift. After your featured pairing, most wineries offer an additional complimentary 2 to 3 tastes. Tickets are purchased by selecting a Starting Winery where you will check-in to the event and pick up your supplies before charting your own course to participating wineries in any order you choose. Tickets are good for both Saturday and Sunday.

America’s favorite comfort food gets an upgrade with help from celebrated Northern Michigan chefs. Area restaurants partner with one WOMP winery each to create a perfect mac & cheese and wine pairing. Participants get to vote for the best pairing, cheesiest, and people’s choice.
